OPINION:
Hundreds of large drones are flying in U.S. airspace, yet as usual our government claims to be clueless as to their source (“Feds insist drones aren’t dangerous but can’t say who’s flying them,” web, Dec. 15).
As these drones are so large, surely the military and/or the Federal Aviation Administration are seeing them on radar, and thus their comings and goings are trackable — including where they take off and return. If the FAA or military says they are unable to track them, that means the drones have stealth capabilities, which would be of major concern.
Bottom line: If the government really knows nothing about the drones, then a few Boeing Apache AH-64 helicopters should be used to shoot them down so we can evaluate them. The Apache is capable of detecting and destroying targets under all weather conditions, both night and day.
If that is too dangerous, why don’t we try dropping nets on them from a plane or crashing a small drone of own into them? I am sure Elon Musk and SpaceX could bring a few down safely.
Of course, these things could just turn out to be Amazon testing out a new delivery service.
