A cloud of doubt hovers over the women’s boxing finals at the Paris Olympics. Not everyone is convinced two of the contestants vying for the gold on Friday and Saturday are actually women.

The dispute exploded in the international arena last week as Italian boxer Angela Carini forfeited her dream after taking 46 seconds of pummeling from someone who should never have been allowed in the ring.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif identifies as a woman, but the claim is disputed. The International Boxing Association, which has overseen matches for more than a century, says a DNA test revealed XY chromosomes, which would mean the women’s welterweight finalist is biologically a man.

A second questionable Olympic bout involved Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan, who also failed the IBA’s chromosome test and defeated a woman, Sitora Turdibekova of Uzbekistan, by unanimous decision. The Taiwanese featherweight will fight for the gold on Saturday.

People can watch the footage and judge for themselves. But that hasn’t stopped the promoters of radical gender ideology from going into overdrive to deny there is any reason for concern. They blast the IBA because its leadership has ties to Russia, and it is an article of modern liberal faith that anything Russian is bad.

A stamp of approval from the International Olympic Committee — the outfit that sanctioned the blasphemous opening ceremony — hardly guarantees accuracy. The IOC abandoned objective sex-verification tests in 1999, and it has a track record of corruption of its own. French police raided Olympic organizer offices over bribery allegations just last year.

The left is all too happy to turn a blind eye to the inherent unfairness of allowing biological males to dominate girls’ and women’s sports, hang out in locker rooms and hijack their restrooms. It’s a reckless policy that raises serious safety issues.

Nancy Hogshead, a three-time gold medalist swimmer at the 1984 Olympics, said, “Gender ideology will get women killed.” In 2022, former high school volleyball player Payton McNabb was severely injured by a ball spiked in her face at an estimated 70 mph by a biological male player on the other team.

A new Rasmussen poll found nearly three-quarters of voters think it’s wrong to allow males who pretend to be female to compete in girls’ and women’s athletics. Only 36%, however, are aware that Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, endorses that policy.

The Biden-Harris administration just rewrote Title IX to add “gender identity” to the list of sex-based protections in federal law. This change is her stamp of approval for men invading women’s competitions and private spaces.

Last year, the Republican-led House passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would prohibit schools and colleges that receive federal funding from allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls or women’s athletic events. The bill was approved on a party-line vote of 219 to 203. It never saw the light of day in the Democratic-run Senate.

Democrats care more about the “rights” of a minuscule fraction of 1% of the population than they do about the rights of the 51% of the population that are female. They ought to be held to account for it at the ballot box.

“There will be no men playing in women’s sports when we’re elected,” Donald Trump vowed after learning of Miss Carini’s forfeit. Conservative candidates everywhere should follow the former president’s lead.

This madness must stop before someone gets hurt.
