OPINION:
At a fundraiser last fall, President Biden said, “Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy” (“Biden saving a democracy: The religion of a party that doesn’t believe in God,” web, Dec. 16). But America isn’t a democracy at all; it is a constitutionally established republic and it is President Biden and his progressive cronies who are out to destroy it.
We pledge allegiance to the United States of America and the republic for which it stands. We do not pledge allegiance to the United States of America and the democracy for which it stands.
In their radio series “The History of Democracy,” Tracy Ross and Murray State history professor David Pizzo reference “How Democracies Die” by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt. Mr. Pizzo says the indicators of authoritarian behavior by government include “rejection of or recommitment to democratic rules of the regime; denial of the legitimacy of political opponents (demonizing them); toleration or encouragement of violence; and readiness to curtail civil liberties of opponents, including media.”
The Biden administration is characterized by all of these hallmark indicators.
