The idea that the state would have authority to act in lieu of and without the knowledge of a parent with respect to minors and their gender is the stuff of North Korea and Iran (“Mom sues Virginia school district over daughter’s transgender secret,” web, Sept. 6).

Even China and Russia, I suspect, would have some qualms on the subject.

Democratic Party policy in this context is alien to parental rights and a harbinger, should it persist in law in other jurisdictions, of creeping autocracy shorn of decency. Republicans should highlight the issue until Democrats rescind their state-knows-best sanctimony.
