OPINION:
So, “China and Russia plan to work together for a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians” (web, Oct. 20)? Well, I believe in two-state solutions as well: for China and Taiwan, and for Russia and Ukraine.
Autocratic China is openly preparing to “reunify” democratic Taiwan — by force. And the Russian dictatorship invaded democratic Ukraine without provocation. Neither China nor Russia has any respect for human rights or self-determination, whether in their own countries or among their neighbors. These hypocritical regimes have no place lecturing democratic Israel on how it should respond to a vicious terrorist attack by Hamas terrorists.
And their self-serving reasons for lecturing Israel are all too transparent: They seek to curry favor with the populous and wealthy Arab world, which is sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. In China’s case, the cozying up is being done to maintain access to cheap oil. And while both are at it, they might as well poke the United States in the eye by trashing our ally Israel.
