Israel overnight struck targets along its border with Lebanon that Iran-controlled Hezbollah forces were using to launch attacks against communities in the northern part of the country.

“This was in response to Wednesday’s shooting attacks,” officials with the Israel Defense Forces said Thursday in a brief statement.

One of the targets was an observation point that Hezbollah militants were using to fire anti-tank missiles at Rosh HaNikra, a kibbutz on the Mediterranean coast, IDF officials said.

Fighting along Israel’s northern border has increased since Hamas launched an attack from the Gaza Strip in southern Israel that resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 people — mostly civilians — and the abduction of hundreds of others.
