The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota awarded a 13-year-old Laporte girl for bravery Monday after she steered her car while her mother became unresponsive.

On Sept. 28, 54-year-old Barbara Foss suffered an unspecified medical emergency while driving on Minnesota State Highway 200, leaving her unable to slow the car down, the sheriff’s office explained in a Facebook post.

Ms. Foss’ daughter, Abby, then called 911.

After deputies were sent to stop the car, dispatcher Sydney Weniger coached Abby on how to take control of the car.

Abby was ultimately able to stop the car, and Ms. Foss was hospitalized and treated successfully.
