Heated argument over yogurt results in St. Louis man shooting 9-year-old boy

A St. Louis man pleaded guilty Monday to shooting a 9-year-old boy after getting into an argument over a package of yogurt.

Kajuan Ali Daniels-McMillan, 21, could face up to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges in the December 2021 shooting that sent his girlfriend’s kid brother to the hospital.

Prosecutors said the gunman’s mother called the police that day after Daniels-McMillan and his brother had an argument about yogurt that escalated into the siblings trading threats.

Daniels-McMillan stormed out of the home, then turned around and fired four rounds through the front door.

Bullet shrapnel struck his girlfriend’s younger brother while he was locking the door behind Daniels-McMillan. The gunman was arrested three months after the violent outburst.

“The senseless shooting is a reminder of how quickly personal conflicts can escalate when a gun is part of the equation,” St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore said in a statement. “I am grateful that our office was able to hold the defendant accountable for irresponsible behavior that harmed an innocent child trying to keep his home secure.”

Daniels-McMillan is scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 5.
