Liability finding based on lie

OPINION:

How was a jury able to find former President Donald Trump liable for sexual abuse? The accuser said Mr. Trump raped her, but the jury dismissed the rape charges.

By basing its verdict on allegations it had dismissed, the jury effectively affirmed that the accuser is a liar. So why would its members validate contradictory reasoning with a finding of liability based on a lie? This jury has debased the American presidency.
