Democrats should want Trump to run

OPINION:

It is true that while president, Donald Trump achieved amazing accomplishments — despite continuous hounding by opponents.

Nonetheless, his narcissism helped to further polarize American society, leading to the election of an incompetent merely because that incompetent was not Mr. Trump.

Like columnist Cal Thomas (“Trump should remove himself from 2024 presidential race,” web, March 20), I believe that Mr. Trump leading the Republican ticket in 2024 is the only way the GOP could lose the election. No one has the right to stop Mr. Trump from campaigning for office again. It will be up to Republican voters to select a candidate who will pursue policies advocated by Mr. Trump combined with a personality that can win over independent folks.

I remain amazed at the shortsightedness of Democratic Party leadership, which continues to make repeated attempts to indict Mr. Trump with a variety of offenses. The goal: Ensure Trump cannot run again. They are so consumed by Trump Derangement Syndrome they fail to recognize that the only way they will win in 2024 is if Mr. Trump is the Republican nominee.

Then again, shooting themselves in the foot as far as Mr. Trump is concerned has become a Democratic habit.
