OPINION:
Peter Parisi rightly berates Los Angeles Dodgers executives for their anti-Catholic bias, which they recently exhibited by inviting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence — drag queens who grossly mock nuns and the Catholic faith — to the baseball team’s annual “Pride Night” (“LA fans should boycott Dodgers for indulging LGBTQ Sisters’ anti-Catholic bigotry,” web, May 31).
Many thanks to Mr. Parisi for speaking against this hateful behavior.
While Catholic bishops and Catholic organizations have spoken out similarly against the Dodgers’ bigotry, not many others have joined them. (Especially noteworthy are other baseball team owners and players.) At this time, only three players — Trevor Williams of the Washington Nationals and Blake Treinen and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers — have criticized the Dodgers’ choice to honor bigots.
It is quite surprising that team owners have not spoken out. Does their silence indicate they agree with the Dodgers? Their failure to denounce this terrible practice does not speak well for the future of baseball. Will the other owners follow the Dodgers’ example, making baseball the anti-Catholic sport?
