OPINION:
While the Denver Nuggets rose to the summit of the National Basketball Association, the streets of the Mile High City sank to a new low owing to the 10 people shot during celebrations (“10 wounded in Denver mass shooting after Nuggets win and suspect taken into custody, police say,” web, June 13).
There will be the usual call for gun control, which ignores the true cause of mayhem (i.e., lack of criminal control). District attorneys such as those in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Minneapolis and the like have initiated policies that have turned the court system into a turnstile. These policies, which include no cash bail, simply recycle offenders so they can continue assaults on the rule of law and the well-being of law-abiding citizens.
Colorado residents have had their heads in the sand for decades. Now, with chaos on the streets, they are reaping what they have sown,
as have those in the cities mentioned earlier.
