President Biden is in a heap of potential trouble with respect to emerging information — kept covered up by the FBI — that he and his son received bribes from a Ukrainian energy official (“Audio recordings of bribery scheme ID Biden as ‘big guy’; memo reveals phone calls with energy exec,” web, June 12).

The official wanted Mr. Biden’s help in firing a prosecutor in Ukraine who was investigating the official.

Mr. Biden, vice president at the time, complied by withholding American aid until the prosecutor was fired. This has yet to be investigated and, if found to be true, adjudicated.

Erstwhile President Donald Trump’s documents case is different, not only in the particulars but in that his case has been investigated by a special counsel, the bones have been fully fleshed and a detailed indictment has been issued.

Mr. Trump is a private citizen and can be tried in court. Mr. Biden, as president, would not be tried while in the White House, although impeachment would be possible.

The charges against Mr. Trump are serious and involve possible espionage, as he kept in his poorly secured home war plans that the Pentagon had written as a contingency should one of our enemies attack a U.S. target or ally.

The devil is always in the details, and those details should calm the MAGA fevers.
