The D.C. team perhaps the most in flux right now is the Washington Wizards.
New president Michael Winger and new general manager Will Dawkins have ripped up the carpet and taken down the drapes of the seemingly stuck-in-neutral NBA moribund.
The pair sent franchise cornerstone Bradley Beal to Phoenix and traded away Kristaps Porzingis to Boston, getting in return a bevy of draft picks and other assets, including Jordan Poole and newcomer (and top draft pick Victor Wembanyama’s former French teammate) Bilal Coulibaly via a trade in the NBA Draft.
It’s strange to see any team strip everything down to the bolts in the absence of a top-three draft pick and with a bad, yet not the worst record in the league.
But after missing the playoffs in four of the last five seasons, drastic change was needed, and the dust is still settling from the flurry of moves, with potentially more on the horizon.
To dig into the moves, we’re joined by DC News Now sports anchor and reporter Alex Flum to evaluate the Wizards as they stand now, project what else could happen before the season starts, and whether or not head coach Wes Unseld Jr. will be given the latitude to lead the team out of the doldrums.
