OPINION:
I did not think it possible that President Biden could stumble below the confidential-documents scandal of the past week, but he has surprised even me (“Biden: Americans should ‘pay attention’ to MLK’s legacy,” Web, Jan. 15). His statement to a mostly Black audience in New York on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, of all days, demonstrated his complete and total viciousness and irresponsibility.
He actually stated, quite firmly so there could be no doubt to his meaning, that Blacks are charged more for auto insurance that Whites — merely because they are Black. And he accuses former President Donald Trump of inciting violence?
Auto insurance rates are determined by statistical data related to costs the insurer might experience from agreeing to insure someone’s car. Every company must obtain the approval of the insurance commissioner in each state where it wants to sell its products, both for the product to be sold and the price to be charged. Making such a false and explosive statement in today’s social environment is like pouring gasoline on a fire.
Don’t be surprised when we learn that an insurance office has been vandalized or that an insurance agent has been assaulted or even killed by people who heard and believed Mr. Biden’s bluster. Is there no end to the damage this man will do to our country?
