The Consumer Product Safety Commission wants to rid American households of natural-gas stoves (“Federal agency weighs banning new gas stoves over health risks,” Web, Jan. 10). I’d rather we rid ourselves of the CPSC and other nonelected government bureaucrats who like nothing better than to intrude upon our basic freedom of choice.

To add insult to injury, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act includes a $840 rebate to those who replace their gas stoves with electric ones. If you want to replace your gas stove because of some perceived health risk, feel free to do so, but do not ask me or any other overburdened taxpayer to subsidize it for you.
