President Biden’s plan to grant amnesty to an additional 30,000 migrants a month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela does nothing to stop illegal immigration at the southern border (“Biden’s immigration actions less than heroic,” Web, Jan. 9). In fact, it will only encourage the presentation of false claims of asylum by illegal aliens coming across it.

In reality, asylum rules under 8 USC 1158(a)(2)(A) would allow asylum seekers to be removed to a “safe third country.” Unfortunately, former President Donald Trump was better at negotiating with Mexico than Mr. Biden is.
