OPINION:
The fascination with “influencers” and celebrities and the striving to move from D-grade status to C-grade (then perhaps to B, but probably never A) has always amused and puzzled me.
The latest events include Britain’s Prince Harry charging people $50 for entrance to an online, livestreamed event next week during which he will speak to a “trauma expert.” Meanwhile, many are already tired of hearing from him, and the “South Park” episode about a fictional prince of Canada who very publicly demands privacy bears a strong resemblance to someone I keep seeing in the papers and on TV.
I am only interested in what my friends and family think about what I have to say and do. I could not care less about the often-vicious views of 50 million people I have never met. My friends are people I can shake hands with.
It’s time to get real and rely on our real friends’ opinions only.
