OPINION:
Donald Trump, a 2024 presidential candidate, recently promised that if he’s elected again he will build an “impenetrable dome” over the U.S. to “protect our people.”
It’s an excellent idea — except that it’s not scientifically possible, either now or in the foreseeable future. And Trump should know that.
Either Mr. Trump has watched too many science-fiction movies or he grossly misunderstands how Israel’s “Iron Dome” air-defense system works. That system is neither an actual dome nor impenetrable. It’s a missile battery that can only protect about 50 square miles, and it certainly isn’t perfect.
Once again, Mr. Trump has ignored basic science and his plans put us at risk. In these volatile times we can’t afford a president who lives in his own self-imagined, alternate reality.
