A man has died at a hospital after police divers recovered him from a submerged car in the Potomac River.
D.C. Fire and EMS first posted about the rescue on X at 12:22 a.m. Friday. The car was submerged along Rock Creek Parkway beneath the Arlington Memorial Bridge in the District.
The driver was pulled from the car underwater at 12:48 a.m. by two divers, one from a Metropolitan Police Department dive team and one from DCFEMS.
At that time, the unnamed man was in life-threatening condition, fire officials wrote on X. Authorities did not elaborate on the man’s injuries.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died, U.S. Park Police told WTOP-FM.
No other people were found in the river, fire officials added in a subsequent post. Work continues to find out how the car got into the river.
