The Washington Commanders have begun making roster cuts.Â
Washington released running back Jaret Patterson and 11 others Monday, a day before the NFL’s deadline for teams to trim down rosters from 90 to 53 players.Â
The Commanders also placed rookie tackle Braeden Daniels on injured reserve — meaning the fourth-rounder’s season is officially over. Daniels, a developmental prospect out of Utah, suffered a rotator cuff injury, sources said.Â
Patterson, a third-year back who went to high school in Laurel, Maryland, faced an uphill battle to make the roster as there were five players ahead of him on the depth chart. But the 23-year-old had become a fan favorite over the years because of his local ties and undersized stature.Â
The 5-foot-8 back latched onto Washington’s roster in 2021 as an undrafted free agent following a productive college career at Buffalo. He spent most of last season on the practice squad after being released on last year’s cutdown day.Â
Here’s who Washington released:Â

- Defensive end Joshua Pryor
- Defensive tackle Anthony Montalvo
- Cornerback D.J. Stirgus
