OPINION:
The coming Artemis I launch should remind us that some of NASA’s early prime engineers were Nazi scientists captured after World War II and secretly relocated to America under “Operation Paperclip.”
Our successful missile program and 1969 moon landing were led by Wernher von Braun, Arthur Rudolph and others who ran the Nazis’ Mittelbau-Dora slave labor camp, where the V-2 guided ballistic missiles were produced. Well over 10,000 slave laborers died there from starvation, disease and physical exhaustion.
As we celebrate NASA’s determination to return to the moon, let’s not forget these victims of Nazi brutality, nor the thousands of English civilians murdered by the German scientists.  Â
