A lawsuit has been filed by an attorney who paid his own student loan debt against the Biden Department of Education, seeking to block the forgiveness of student loan debt (“Public interest lawyer sues Biden administration to stop student debt write-off,” Web, Sept. 27). The legal argument is that the administration cannot forgive student loan debt without congressional approval of such a major expenditure of funds.

It is possible that we will see additional lawsuits for this purpose. We are not out of the woods yet on this act and may yet find some relief from these lawsuits. It is estimated that between $500 billion and $1 trillion will be the cost incurred for the forgiveness of student debt.
