As an old fan of the original Washington football team whose name I dare not mention, I must say our new team has so far been a poor replacement. There are numerous trophies in the office at the team’s home office that should be put in a museum, as the team that earned them no longer exists. The current team has no claim on those trophies and should not have the right to display them.

The new team must earn its own trophies and awards, and from my observations those will not be coming any time soon. I am 84 years old and for many years I held season tickets. I let those tickets go a few years ago. I’m not an expert on football, but I have seen many professional and college games in my lifetime. From what I’ve seen of our new team, I don’t believe it is a professional football team at all. It looks more like some kind of volleyball group trying to pass itself off as a professional football team.

I will probably never again see a team in Washington that will stir the soul and instill the pride that our old team did. It was one of the original NFL teams and it came to Washington before I was born. My mother sang the fight song to me when I was in my cradle. Hail to them. I will never forget.
