The national loan forgiveness plan for students is appalling (“DOJ opinion supporting loan forgiveness ignores the ‘major questions doctrine,’” Web, Oct. 11). Since when should taxpayers be held liable for the bad financial decisions of individuals?

Is this how we teach our younger generation accountability, work ethic and individual responsibility? What ever happened to the idea of earning your tuition through the GI Bill or work? Shouldn’t those on the public dole through their irresponsible behavior at least have to perform some public service in exchange for the forgiveness of these irresponsible loans?
