A game day raffle winner at FedEx Field said Wednesday that the check he received from the Washington Commanders had bounced.
The team said by the afternoon that they had resolved the issue and paid the fan.
A man named Drew called into The Team 980 sports radio station’s Russell & Medhurst show to tell the hosts that the $14,822 check from the Washington Football Team Charitable Foundation was no good, according to a report on the station’s website.
Drew in Rockville (the fan that actually won the 50/50 raffle) just called in & confirmed in his words that a check for $14 K bounced. He said he has pics of check & it was from “Washington Football Charitable Foundation” as a display logo.

He won the Commanders’ 50/50 raffle that is held each home game. Drew, a season ticket holder from Rockville, Maryland, entered the raffle during the Sept. 12 home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The other half of the money goes to local youth programs.
Drew shared a photo of a FedEx Priority Overnight shipping package addressed to him with the station. It was dated Oct. 13 and sent from the team’s headquarters in Ashburn, Virginia.
After getting in touch with a team representative through his bank, the winner told show hosts Chris Russell and Pete Medhurst that the team official had hustled to fix the issue.
A spokesperson with the Commanders said Wednesday afternoon that a bank error caused the payment issues and the team instead sent the money to Drew electronically.
The payment foul-up comes amid an atmosphere of pronounced dysfunction for Washington’s beleaguered football franchise.
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said Tuesday that there is “merit” to removing Commanders owner Daniel Snyder over accusations of sexual improprieties within the team’s organization.
The NFL is awaiting the results of former Securities and Exchange Commission chair Mary Jo White’s probe into the misconduct allegations against Mr. Snyder.

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly reported how many people win the raffle. One person wins, while the rest of the money goes to local youth programs.
