As I respected the late Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and his actions to save our economy and country in the 1980s, perhaps it is time we discuss another way to go about fixing these problems.

It’s easiest, of course, for Congress and the president to continue with the Democratic Party’s abhorrent policies and objectives, and leave the matter of solving inflation up to current Fed Chairman Jerome Powell. The real answer, however, lies with a Congress and a president willing to accept responsibility and work with Mr. Powell to achieve the necessary lessening of inflation.

The issues are much the same now as they were in the 1980s: oil and too much congressional spending. Providing lower diesel-fuel costs to the farmers is the major underlying factor in the price of much of our basic food. The problem can be solved without bankrupting farmers or businesses across the country just to meet the goals of a very selfish, shortsighted political party.
