A lack of respect for human life is spreading throughout the United States. Sadly, it has even spread to the approximately 70.4 million Catholics in our country. Many are in elected political positions at every level of government.

Current and pending legislation includes full-term abortion. Assisted suicide is also on the agenda. These radicals are also paving the way for gender mutilation, even with young lives. There is the tendency, too, to try to separate young students from their parents and families, so that even legal guardians are not informed about abortions, gender-change attempts, etc.

While good, humble and faithful lay Catholics are praying before and after Masses and peaceably protesting at abortion clinics, they ask, where is the Catholic Church leadership in this country? It offers little guidance for those in political office who have gone astray and are influencing others to do the same. By their silence, they are giving tacit approval of very serious sins.

These so-called Catholics in political office are routinely allowed to commit a sacrilege by receiving Holy Communion with little to no guidance or discipline from the Catholic Church. It is time for the Catholic Church in America to guide, deny receipt of Holy Communion and if necessary excommunicate those who are violating God’s laws and influencing others to do so, too. The primary responsibility of the Church is to save souls.
