In the wake of the Uvalde, Texas, shooting there is a very strong clamor to do “something” about gun control (“Lawmakers forge ahead in search of bipartisan path on gun control,” Web, May 31). Republicans want to preserve gun rights and Democrats just want more government control.

How about raising the age to buy a gun to 21 and at the same time raising the voting age to 21? Democrats will like the first part and Republicans will like the second. The Democrats get fewer people who can buy guns and Republicans get older, presumably more educated, voters, whom we all know are more likely to vote Republican.
