OPINION:
I just read that Oregon has passed the “Menstrual Dignity Act” requiring menstrual products to be placed in boys’ school bathrooms (“Portland schools offer free feminine-hygiene products in boys’ bathrooms for ’menstruating students,’” Web, May 2). The act “affirms the right of menstrual dignity for transgender, intersex, nonbinary, and two spirit students by addressing the challenges that some students have managing menstruation …” Are you kidding me? We have boys competing with girls on swim teams, males using females’ bathrooms, transgender women in beauty contests and a high government health official pretending to be a woman.
When are we going to see a man identifying as a dog and asking to stay at a kennel? When are we going to witness a woman insisting that she is 16 years old and must be allowed to attend a high-school prom? Am I being absurd? Certainly, and that’s the point. Is there anything more ludicrous than insisting that boys have access to tampons? (I would like to see the instruction manual, by the way.) When is this nonsense going to stop? Why do we dignify such “woke” policies by engaging in debate? These activities should be mocked and dismissed out of hand.
Sir Walter Scott nailed it over 200 years ago when he wrote, “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.” This movement is indeed now a tangled web, and it needs to be called what it is: ridiculous, irrational, foolish, nonsensical, harebrained and farcical.
