Robert Griffin III’s “explosive, tell-all” book about the “dysfunctional” Washington football franchise turned out to be a pump fake.
In November, Griffin revealed in a Twitter video that he was writing a book about his time with the organization, titled “Surviving Washington.” But according to 106.7 The Fan’s Eric Bickel, Griffin has scrapped the book after having “second thoughts,” per Bickel’s unnamed source.
The pre-order link on Simon & Schuster’s website no longer shows Griffin’s book, which was planned to be co-authored by Gary Myers and published in August. Griffin’s tweet from November announcing the book has also been deleted. Neither Griffin nor Myers have publicly said if or why the project is dead.
“I’m going to tell you the truth about what happened in that playoff game in 2012 against Seattle,” the former first-round pick said in the since-deleted Twitter video. “I’m going to detail the medical mismanagement during my time in Washington. I’m going to open your eyes to the sexual harassment that permeated the walls of that building and give you a deep dive into a power struggle between one of the most powerful coaches in all of sports and an owner that many of you want gone.”
The announcement in November caused debates between Washington fans about whether they cared about what Griffin, who played three seasons in Washington, would write.
Griffin last played in the NFL in 2020 with the Ravens and now works as an analyst for ESPN.
