Max Scherzer’s much-anticipated return to Nationals Park as a member of the Mets likely won’t be on MASN or SNY.
The Nationals-Mets showdown on Friday, April 8, will be streamed exclusively by Apple TV+. The contest — the second of the season for both teams — will be the first “Friday Night Baseball” game for Apple TV+, which has exclusive rights to a pair of MLB games every Friday.
Mets manager Buck Showalter has already announced that ace Jacob deGrom will be New York’s opening day starter, meaning Scherzer is likely to take the bump for the second game of the season on April 8.
Nationals and Mets fans don’t need to fret, though. The contest will be available for free and will not require an Apple TV+ subscription, although games on the streaming platform later in the season are not expected to be free.
The other tilt that will co-debut “Friday Night Baseball” for Apple TV+ is the Astros at Angels game at 9:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, MLB unveiled the schedule for the first 12 weeks of Friday night games for the streaming service. The other Nationals game that will be exclusively on the platform is the team’s road game at San Francisco on April 29. Apple said games can be viewed without a subscription “for a limited time,” so it’s unsure if the matchup versus the Giants will be for free.
