OPINION:
My heart aches for the Ukrainian people as they suffer enormous pain just for wanting to remain an independent, democratic republic. These brave individuals are willing to die for their freedom, so we cannot hold back our support. It is the time for all free peoples everywhere to come to the aid of Ukraine. We must be all in during this fight for freedom in hope that a further bloodbath can be avoided.
We must be smart and search for peace, but we cannot be intimidated by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s evil aggression. Indeed, the Russian invasion of Ukraine threatens us all. Ensuring the democracy of Ukraine means ensuring the democracy of all free nations. We must support democracy against autocracy. Washington must be the lighthouse of freedom that supports liberty.
Beyond the abstract, the U.S. must strengthen its support of the vibrant and democratic Taiwan against autocratic China. This can be done by ending Washington’s policy of “strategic ambiguity” toward Taiwan in favor of open deterrence.
