OPINION:
As a participant of the school lunch program when I was in high school, I found it heartbreaking to read the new policy of the Department of Agriculture regarding meal funding and Title IX (“Gov. Noem: S.D. will sue if USDA withholds lunch money over transgender sports debate,” Web, June 3). This type of aggressive tactic that forces teachers to disregard their religious views about human biology reminds me of the actions of the Nixon administration staffers who caused Watergate. The only difference is that this is socially motivated.
It appears the Biden administration has decided to use our public education system as the vehicle to indoctrinate children into abnormal behaviors, once again ignoring the desires of parents. Threatening to withhold vital nutrition to needy children is morally wrong on so many levels and makes clear this administration’s true feelings about the value of children in low-income families. If President Biden and team are trying to maintain or increase Democratic votes among African Americans and Hispanics, this is political suicide.
We need to find out why this administration is so intent on indoctrinating our children. Who thought this meal-plan idea would get overall support? They’re taking advantage of most parents being distracted by work and other duties. As my mother used to say, the devil is in the details — and many parents are too harried to check those details.
Our education system’s goal is to provide information that results in clarity and understanding, not confusion or indoctrination. This directive will only compromise our children’s learning — not to mention the nutritional needs of many.
And we were told the previous administration was a threat.
