After a standout career with the Maryland Terrapins, Maxwell Costes is signing with his hometown team.

Costes, a Baltimore native, signed with the Orioles on Wednesday as an undrafted free agent, according to multiple reports. MASN’s Roch Kubatko was first to report the signing.

The 22-year-old first baseman was a force at the plate the last four seasons at Maryland, ranking in the program’s top 10 in most major offensive categories. He ranks second all-time in home runs (40) and walks (116), third in RBIs (145), sixth in on-base percentage (.458) and eighth in slugging (.560).

As a senior this spring, Costes helped lead the Terrapins to a program-high 48 wins, earning College Park its first ever chance to host an NCAA Tournament regional. Costes hit .296 with 16 homers and a 1.017 on-base plus slugging.

Costes joins left-handed pitcher Ryan Ramsey and outfielders Troy Schreffler Jr. and Chris Alleyne as Terrapins who have moved on to the professional ranks this summer. Ramsey, Schreffler and Alleyne were all drafted in the MLB draft earlier this week.

Ramsey, who tossed a perfect game in April, was selected in the 13th round by the Royals. Schreffler was picked in the 15th round by the Phillies, and the Dodgers chose Alleyne in the 19th round.
