Rumors of the invocation of the 25th Amendment, which provides the procedures for replacing the president in the event of death, removal, resignation or incapacitation, are continuing to emerge from Democratic power brokers. Whether that proceeding will come to pass is anyone’s guess. At the same time, however, The Washington Post recently issued a ranking of the top 10 presidential candidates for 2024. The list was a stark reminder of how dreadfully weak the Democrats’ bench is — and brought to mind Disney’s “Snow White.”

At the top of the list is President Biden, who could play the role of Dopey for obvious reasons. Pete Buttigieg, second on the list, the hapless transportation secretary, reminds me of Sleepy for his pathetic and lackluster performance. Vice President Kamala Harris (third) wins the moniker of Happy because of her annoying and inappropriate cackling during virtually every interview. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (fourth) earns the designation of Grumpy because of her propensity to feign righteous indignation and anger about one topic or another.

That leaves three remaining “dwarfs”: Doc, Bashful and Sneezy, whose names don’t seem to fit the rest of the assembly of potential candidates. Nevertheless, the fact that these contenders represent the top tier of Democratic presidential hopefuls is disheartening and frankly alarming. Even more chilling is that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who could share the same label as the president, made the list at tenth place. With more than three-quarters of registered voters seeing the United States moving in the wrong direction, this is what the Democratic Party has to offer? How sad.
