In 1776 the Founders and patriots, all from the private sector, created America’s government to protect the unalienable rights of individuals. Twelve years later, private-sector individuals revised their government and gave it the power to “provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare.”

There is no free-lunch fairy, as President Biden would have us all believe (“The Supreme Court and Biden’s vast display of ignorance,” Web, Jan. 10). Funds for Biden’s “Build Back Better” proposal will increase America’s debt, with interest and principal to be paid via taxation by force: profits earned by the private sector. Although taxes will be paid by a single person (e.g., Elon Musk) there are 130 million to 150 million private-sector workers who have sweat equity in those taxes.

The Preamble to our Constitution should have begun, “We the private sector of the United States.” It was after all the private sector that created and defended the country in war and continues to pay the bills in peace time, even giving checks to welfare leeches and other wastrels.
