OPINION:
Remembering the political implications of the Berlin Olympics of 1936, “American Olympians playing for China are betraying USA” (Web, Feb. 4) parallels the problem created by uncontrolled immigration and loyalty defined by tribalism.
People may come to the United States for money or security, but haphazard immigration and naturalization concurrently allow entry and citizenship to those of uncertain allegiances. Would familial and tribal loyalties ultimately foster legislation for unrestricted immigration? Or ultimately support the Mexican Reconquista movement to cede much of the Southwest to Mexico? Or legislate the imposition of Sharia law? Do people entering the country actually have more problems with us than they do with those of similar cultural affinity who are seeking to undermine the United States? Lest we forget, Islamic jihadists have vowed to use our own laws against us.
