Each year on the third Monday in February, we celebrate Presidents Day in honor of our first president, George Washington, and all those who have come after him to lead our great nation and shape our American heritage. Through war and peace, U.S. presidents have assumed the complex tasks of ensuring our nation’s prosperity, safeguarding democracy and leading our military men and women as they uphold freedom at home and abroad.

Today we salute our presidents and the strong foundation of American values and ideals that inspire our efforts across the globe.
