OPINION:
The donations cited in “MacKenzie Scott believes schools should raise your kids” (Web, Feb. 9) are to a 501(c)3 organization, exempt from federal income tax. As such, taxes that would have helped pay principal and interest on America’s $30 trillion debt are diverted to a special interest — an interest that could be anathema to diametrically opposite groups.
James Madison discussed this in his essay, “Federalist No. 10,” and it appears the cited groups advocate “social parasitism” adapted from avian brood parasitism. Friedrich Hayek wrote about it in “The Road to Serfdom.” Thomas Sowell observed: “No society ever thrived because it had a large and growing class of parasites living off those who produce.”
Do 153 million workers in America’s private sector understand they are helping subsidize socialist parasites? Apparently Canadian truckers have made up their minds.
