The Suffolk County police union in New York posted on Facebook that its members will be boycotting the Super Bowl halftime show due to Snoop Dogg’s new song that includes anti-police lyrics said by other rappers featured on the song.
“Encouraging people to shoot police officers apparently earns you a spot as a headliner at the Superbowl,” a union leader wrote on its Facebook page. “If you choose to watch the game at all, (we won’t be) halftime is a great moment to shut your TV off in honor of those men and women in blue who gave their lives for us.”
Since the new Snoop Dogg song, titled “Police,” dropped on Jan. 22, conservative pundits have criticized the NFL for having the California rapper perform the halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar.
Rudy Giuliani on 77 WABC radio in New York on Friday urged Americans to boycott the halftime show.
“I don’t know how any decent person can listen to that halftime show with that Doggy, whatever that guy’s name is,” Giuliani said. “Don’t watch the damn thing.”
Newsmax’s Greg Kelly, also on 77 WABC Friday, gave a similar sentiment, telling listeners that the goal of boycotting the halftime show is to send a message via the ratings that will come out after the game.
“You won’t miss any of the game, and they will get the message,” Kelly said. “The ratings, they have all these ways to figure out who’s watching it and when they turn off the TV. That would be awesome. They will get the message. You can’t thrust cop haters on us.”
