OPINION:
The problem at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, lies with its principal, Ann Bonitatibus (“Top-ranked high school didn’t announce National Merit Scholars for years: Report,” Web, Dec. 25). She will never be fired or disciplined for withholding from students the information that they had been recognized as National Merit Scholars.
It would be nice if the mainly Asian students at this school and their parents could sue the principal personally and bankrupt her and take her pension for what she has done to them. She, not me, is the one who really needs to feel the pain on this. The fact that she will most likely not suffer is why people like her get away with what they do. There are no consequences.
Knowing how woke the Fairfax County School Board is, I would not be surprised if it and the superintendent of schools all knew about this and blessed it. If that is what happened, they all should be personally sued. Before a single penny is paid to the students by the taxpayers, the money should come out of these individuals’ own pockets.
Imagine if a White principal had been doing this to Black students. There would be protests or worse demanding the principal be fired and the Justice Department and Department of Education would be all over it, looking into civil rights violations. I am not holding my breath in this situation.
