OPINION:
The stench coming from the biased Jan. 6 committee is overwhelming to the point of inducing nausea (“House Jan. 6 committee recommends criminal charges against Trump, lawyer Eastman,” Web, Dec. 19).
I watched committee Chairman Bennie Johnson trying to justify the legitimacy of the hearings to charge former President Donald Trump with criminal acts. He put on a poorly contrived video showing the actions of some of the alleged rioters. These snippets could have been from another country for all we know.
As a former law enforcement officer, I have to ask how all of these so-called crimes were overlooked by the FBI and Justice Department. Surely those who investigate criminal acts have the capacity to know a crime when they see one, providing there is evidence to support a charge. So why wasn’t Mr. Trump charged by law enforcement?
What I’ve witnessed with the Jan. 6 committee farce are corrupt politicians who will lie, cheat and steal to get rid of Mr. Trump. Disgraceful Vice Chair Liz Cheney has colluded with the real criminals who make up the committee to hang Mr. Trump — yet she had the unmitigated gall to say the committee was working for the people. Being one of the people, I can assure her she isn’t working on my behalf.
Was Mr. Trump derelict when he put up the wall to stop the invasion at the southern border? Was he derelict when stood up to our enemies around the world? Was he derelict when he gave prosperity to our country and made us energy independent? Was he the one who left Americans and allies in Afghanistan at the mercy of the Taliban?
President Biden and his despicable cohorts in crime, as well as people like Ms. Cheney, are responsible for our current state of affairs. They should be criminally charged.
