OPINION:
Dangerous criminal cartels — not the U.S. government — now control our southern border. Thus far during the Biden presidency, over 5 million illegals have entered our country. There are over 71,000 U.S. deaths annually due to the lethal drug fentanyl, and if you include other drugs, that number soars to 100,000. We are approaching, if not exceeding, the 407,300 American deaths that took place during World War II. Yet our federal government is doing little to nothing to stem the illegal flow of fentanyl and other drugs across our border.
Border agents have found people from some 160 countries, many not friendly, some with terrorist backgrounds. There are also thousands crossing, then sneaking away. The Migrant Policy Institute estimates the “unauthorized” population in the U.S. at 11.5 million. The real number may be much larger.
Our country is in grave danger. The cartels’ reach is deep inside the United States. Contained in the flow of illegal immigrants are serious criminals, vicious gang members and drug, child, human and sex traffickers, not to mention potential terrorists. The flow of these individuals is completely out of control and our border agents can’t keep up. It is true anarchy, an invasion of our country.
Despite the pleas of governors on the border states and beyond (and pleas from in the federal government), the Biden administration is doing nothing to protect us. We are on a path toward allowing the total destruction of our country. It is a time for urgent federal action.
