OPINION:
The outrageous “Inflation Reduction Act” is probably the worst piece of legislation in modern history (“Democrats’ tax and climate spending bill clears Senate along party lines, heads to House,” Web, Aug. 7). The U.S. is on a dangerous course thanks to President Biden and the Democrats. Under these circumstances, Republicans should easily take back the Senate in November. However, the polls indicate the race might be a real cliffhanger. Why is that?
On Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, Stephen Miller, former adviser for President Trump, said he believes the Republican leadership in the Senate is mostly responsible for its dismal performance. I believe there is a great deal of truth to that. Mitch McConnell’s bias against conservatives and his love affair with China have done much to harm the image and the effectiveness of the Republican Party.
Mr. Miller also proposed a battle plan that would lead to a major Republican victory in November. The Democrats want to do short-term government funding until December; Mr. Miller said Republicans must emphatically reject this. The funding of the government should be done in February 2023 under the new Congress.
Republicans can say to Americans, “If you put us back in control of the House and the Senate, we will stop the Biden agenda immediately in February — by stopping funding to all these socialist programs.” After all, whoever holds the purse strings holds the power.
Mr. Miller said Republicans must act quickly, must be brave and must not back down. We are in the 11th hour with few options left. It would be wise for the Republican Party to at least consider Mr. Miller’s proposal.
