OPINION:
The U.S. Constitution is the law of the land. All congressional legislation must be in accordance with its articles, amendments and provisions.
Of late the free corporate press seems to think it is above this law of the land, and that its members can pick and choose what the U.S. public needs to know. They also seem to think they can bury news for as long as it is conducive to their corporate biases.
What happened to the independence of reporters and newsrooms, and to the editors running those operations? They used to hold themselves separate from their corporate owners. Now these owners seem to be their masters.
The ability to be the first to bust a real, major news story — while getting it verified and right the first time — seems to have faded into the history the press corps seems to no longer regard or read.
The Jan. 6, 2021, committee debacle needs to morph into an investigation on how the culpability of the corporate news media produced the atmosphere that led to that dark day.
Reporting false news and burying real news to attack a sitting administration should be considered egregious enough to warrant an in-depth look at the industry that brought it about.
Hopefully, in the near future there will be a full accounting.
