Education is civilization itself (“Parents revolting against the perversion of their children draws fire,” Web, April 23). It is the way that people achieve the skill of reasonable living, and it begins at birth.

Those who wish to “fundamentally transform America” know that they must get into the minds of young children because what is learned in early childhood is difficult if not impossible to change.

Parents have caught on and are now energized in asserting their rights over their own children’s education. They should know that before former President Jimmy Carter nationalized education, it was under the control of the individual states — and it worked.

Parents must demand an end to federal control of education. It doesn’t work.

The quality of education plays a major role in the power struggles of history, but only what is learned can be passed onto the next generation.
