Finnish prosecutors have appealed a court ruling in favor of Paivi Rasanen, a physician and member of Finland’s parliament, according to The Washington Times (“Prosecutors appeal ’hate speech’ exoneration of politician who quoted Bible on homosexuality,” Web, April 7). Sam Brownback, a former Kansas governor and U.S. senator, decried the appeal, saying, “It was wrong to prosecute free speech in the first place and it is even worse to appeal a unanimous decision.”

But why is the rest of the media not speaking out against the prosecution? While the Times deserves credit for calling out Finland’s persecution of Christians, there is nary a whimper of protest from its rivals. Meanwhile, an innocent woman is once again facing trial, despite the fact that all charges against her were dropped last month. Little did it occur to anyone that it would come to this.
