OPINION:
Life is a continuum (“Supreme Court divides 5-4, leaves Texas six-week abortion ban in place,” Web, Sept. 6). There is no magical point at which we are more alive, more human or more of an individual person. All of our physical traits — the color of our skin, eyes and hair, our physique type, etc. — are established at conception. With the exception of hair color, these stay with us from birth, to youth and through old age until natural death. The right to life of the preborn is as defensible as any born person and should be protected by law.
The foregoing was scientifically established (and ignored by the assenting justices) prior to the 1973 Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court decisions, which decriminalized abortion. It is now powerfully confirmed by science and subsequent technological advances (i.e., sonography, which enables many remarkable life-saving fetal surgeries).
