Much of what we’re now seeing in opposition to Christianity began soon after the end of World War II. It was in 1947, after all, that the Supreme Court ruled for the separation of church and state as we know it.

In Europe, many churches are empty, and in recent years there has been an influx of Islamists. These facts should serve as a warning to America, where similar events are happening today. Although many Americans are church-going Christians, there are groups, such as the Secular Democrats of America (SDA) and those members of Congress who claim that we are less Christian in number and warn of such a thing as a white Christian nationalist movement.( The secularists’ complete stance can be read in their 28-page letter to then President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris.)

Recalling World War II and all it horrors, why would a member of the SDA and one of the “Squad” recently demonstrate opposition to the funding of Israel’s Iron Dome? Isn’t modern-day Israel where Christianity began? Isn’t Israel a prime example of democracy and our one true ally in the Middle East?

Christians and the church need to awaken. As described in Erwin Lutzer’s “When A Nation Forgets God”: “We must not permit the lawmakers or the courts of America discourage us from doing what we must: representing Christ in our personal and corporate witness. … Let us be obedient to a higher law, the law as given us by the Supreme Court of the Universe.” In so doing, we are reminded that “the battle is not so much between church and state as it is within our own hearts.”
